Recently a major
university did a study of how sound environments affect chronic pain
levels. The severity of pain was measured using a ten point scale.
Before and after painful procedures, patients were asked to indicate
how uncomfortable they felt. The patients not listening to natural
soundscapes scored the pain a 5.7, while patients listening to nature
sounds during the painful procedure scored the pain a 3.9. The
patients listening to the sounds had an impressive 33% reduction of
