Last Night I Could Not Sleep
Last night, for some reason or another, I could not fall asleep. I almost felt wide awake at 12:30 AM. Luckily, I have the complete library of Sleep Sounds. However, even I doubted whether one would work in my condition. I chose Jumbo Jet. It seems to be a little more potent (for me, anyway) then most of them. In fact I had someone tell me it should come with a warning ' do not operate heavy machinery while listening'. I laid down... put my earbuds in and listened. I knew this would not work. I was much too awake. I visualized the setting... imagining the landscape outside the jet as we rumbled down the runway. We lifted off. I heard the landing gear come up. I visualized watching the land beneath us get farther and farther away. This isn't going to work, I thought to myself.
That was the last thought I remember. I woke up at 7:30 AM today feeling pretty good. The visualization , I believe, kicks in the sleep circuitry we all have in our big brains. Even I was amazed on how well it worked last night... and I created the genre'. Part of the 'secret' of virtual dreaming ( I don't know what else to call it... if you do please email me) is knowing the scenario ... the sequence of events that occur in the recordings. That is one of the reasons they are kept as basic as possible. Knowing what's coming next helps with the visualization process. So most will find that the recordings get increasingly potent the more times you listen to them.
I think I know what I will be doing for the rest of my life. I am absolutely sure that you will find one our relaxing nature sounds that will not only help you sleep but might actually amaze you on how fast you fall asleep.
Update: Having used earbuds now for a few weeks I cannot recommend them as I pulled them out in my sleep too many times. However, I do recommend using speakers with an audio CD or using your laptop or MP3 speakers.
