nextI have written extensively over the years about the process of falling asleep and have sorted my journal into four areas of interest.

Random Thoughts about 'The Relaxation Business'

I occasionally run across a story on the Internet that is so inane that to not point it out would be a travesty. Such a story was presented courtesy of CNN (via Health.com). The headline of the story reads ' Sleep Deprived? Your Looks May Suffer'. The premise of this no-brainer is that if you are not sleeping well you could very well look tired. There is a sleep deprived vs. well rested picture comparison at the site. This is news? The story was obviously written by a good sleeper who only knows about insomnia through the news media and anecdotal stories.

We have been busy re-mastering many of the recordings on this site. We are currently decreasing compression, while re-thinking some of the scenarios. While greatly increasing the fidelity of the recordings, this has also increased the size of some of the downloads by as much as 25%. As bandwidth increases, and MP3 players and computers increase their RAM capabilities, the need to compress the nature sounds becomes less relevant. This is no small task as we have about sixty soundscapes.

We still get the occasional patron buying a sound and expecting a nature CD to show up in their mailbox a few days later. We do not sell CD's. We sell instant MP3 downloads that can be turned into audio CD's on a computer (or used with MP3 players).  I don't know how much clearer we can make this fact.

I have been busy conjuring up new relaxation ideas. The most enjoyment I personally receive with this job is making new soundscapes. We are improving with age and experience. Our latest sound Lake House Storm has received very nice reviews by some of our patrons.

Lastly, we would like to wish everyone a merry Christmas and happy holidays.  It has been a fulfilling year as we added about 20 new sounds in 2010. I am anticipating adding 15 to 20 more in 2011. If you have an interesting idea let us know!
